The Nytech Audio Music lab is a new dedicated area for people more interested in the technical aspect of music making and reproduction.

It includes technical information, kits and DIY projects for electronics engineers (old and new), musicians, audio engineers and anyone else who loves to geek out on all the techie stuff!

Find out how stuff works by having a go at building it yourself!

The following projects are in the final stages of development and will be available before the end of the year.

The EXO3 is a 2/3 way electronic crossover which uses a single filter module for each crossover point by either adding or subtracting the output from the filter to the main amplifier stage. This results in a near perfect mirror of the frequencies (including phase) giving results that were only previously obtainable with digital signal processors.

This crossover is best suited to High End speaker designs which have reduced speaker anomalies by good cabinet design and choice of matched drive units.

A 2 way version can also be made by omitting the second filter element.

The KPA2 is a driver board which can be used with appropriate output transistors (and heat sinks) to produce a pure Class A audio power amplifiers up to 50W RMS.

Because the builder has to add the output transistor arrangements themselves this is not a project recommended for the beginner without the skills to get it working!

The CDP102 phono stage is intended to be used with a turntable with a magnetic cartridge. The design is based on the original Nytech / Ion phono stages which earned an enviable reputation for musical quality and enjoyment. Both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) versions are available.

These phono stages are fully discrete (using no IC’s in the signal path) and are an excellent introduction for anyone wishing to learn about phono stage design.

The RPM1 is designed to switch on the AC power) (maximum current 10A) to an audio item (such as a power amplifier) in response to a contact closure to earth from a control device (such as a preamp).

Both 220V and 110 V versions are available and the module can be incorporated inside the equipment to be controlled or built into a custom box with appropriate mains connectors.

Please note this project involves wiring AC mains which can kill.

Only people experienced with safely wiring mains equipment and knowing the regulations in their own countries should attempt this project!
